The official launching of the 2017 farming season for northern regions of Cameroon held on 12 may 2017.

Farmers of the Northern Region have successfully joined their counterparts across Cameroon to launch the 2017 farming season. A ceremony to that effect was chaired by the Henri Eyebe Ayissi, the minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER), on the 12 May 2017 in Maroua. As usual, MINADER offered (free-of-charge) tools and other inputs to some farming related organizations present at the esplanade of the Maroua Regional Delegation of Agriculture.

In the ministers speech he reiterated the importance of rejuvenated and modernized farming, which is the backbone of the economy. The minister appealed for more youths to take the challenge and contribute their quota towards Cameroon’s emergence by 2035.The ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is leaving no stone on turned in the training and provision of financial support to the youths in their respective fields of work. AFOP is a programmed that trains youths in Agro-pastoral activities. Five laureates of the graduating batch recently benefitted the sum of 12 million Francs as subvention aimed to increase the yields.

It was within this prism, that the minister visited the sorghum cropsect cooperative and the new production whale house constructed by PIDMA which will help cropsect to facilitate in to produce clean sorghum.
